(Post 1 of 2)

It’s been about six weeks since I returned to the Arctic for this project, #meetthenorth. I will spend the next two years meeting northerners from different countries, and this weekend, during #ParksDay, I introduced myself to this friendly face.
As often happens with Meet the North, an introduction led me somewhere I didn’t expect.

This man, Paul Idlout, is widely known, and he’s worked with Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park in Iqaluit for nine years looking after the place and teaching school kids about it. He’s 80 years old.

Paul’s originally from Pond Inlet. He was a hunter, among other things, but he’s also a retired pastor. He invited me to the Apex church on Sunday where I got a very different view of his life.

See him again in the next post.
