Lauga hooks the milking machine overhead and gets to work. While she milks and feeds the cows, she is also checking on the new calves and the pregnant mothers. She shows me where to place my hand, near the base of the cow’s tail, in order to assess when labour will begin. They are expecting one new calf very soon.
I ask if Lauga will come tonight to look in on the mother. She puts her hand to the cow’s back again and says, “No, no, not tonight. Maybe tomorrow.” When the milking is over, Eric asks to take a portrait of this couple.
