A boat sitting between icebergs in Ilulissat, Greenland.

Time for a new adventure

I’ve been back and forth between Canada and Greenland for the last month and a half. It’s always a privilege to explore the ice here in Ilulissat, and I’ve been posting to the @lindbladexp account all week with pics from this Greenland/Iceland voyage. Our National Geographic Explorer’s grant begins next week. Time for a new adventure –…

Changing landscapes

Unlike the peaks of mountains, which take centuries to change, icebergs etch new landscapes every day, and they look gorgeous in every circumstance. Fog + birds + ice. The Arctic is teaching me to be ready for anything. ?? #meetthenorth #seabirds #lindbladexpeditions #iceberg #icebergs #fog #greenland #beauty #lifeupnorth #meettheunexpected

A boat full of people passes a cavernous iceberg.

To the beyond

Down here, a stroll through the neighbourhood looks like this. Each glacier face is uniquely unpredictable. Despite our attempts to measure, calculate, and forecast, this landscape will always extend beyond our understanding. I’m grateful for that. #meetthenorth #meetthesouth #antarcticambassadors #blue #glacier #zodiac #cruising #dowhatyoulove

An Antarctic iceberg.

Look deeply

Antarctica constantly reminds me to look beneath the surface. Watching the icebergs reinforces what I keep in mind when I meet new people around the world: there is so much more than what you see at first glance. It’s true that 90% of the berg is underwater. Look deeply to understand clearly – Thich Nhat…

An iceberg on Baffin Island.

Rest in routine

Thirty days ago, we embarked on November, which is usually my least favourite time of year. To heck with that, I said, this time it will be different. So . . . was it? It was. I stayed home the entire month, and I set a routine. This was a change for me, but it…

A figure walks beside an iceberg.

(Post 2 of 3) This iceberg is both a thing of beauty and a hub of activity. Here, you can see the ice quarry. People journey out here to gather ice for tea water, and the back side of this berg, where I’m standing, is ankle deep in loose blocks of ice that are ready…

An iceberg, illuminated as the sun sets.

(Post 3 of 3) Cold light to match the evening. We’ve lit up the local iceberg just as the sky is darkening. Time to fire up the snowmobile and head off to bed.
